Classwork these 4 days this week.  All in the Holt Literature Book

4 selections that my students have written in their Planners.  Answers to comprehension questions may be placed on the same piece of notebook paper.

Thank you, one and all !!!  It has been a terrific year with all of my 6th grade students.  I am retiring this June and could not leave with sweeter memories and experiences than with this 6th grade class.  Look for me around town and I will be tudoring after school beginning in September.  Have a great summer !!!!

Holt Literature Book – “Dog of Pompeii” and “Pompeii”.  Stories are to reaDd at home if not completed in class.  Questions #1 – #11 on Page 440 are due on Tuesday, June 8th.

20 Vocabulary wordes from the 2 stories are listed on the front board.  We will discuss the words tomorrow, define them and practice using them correctly in a well written sentence.

Parts of Speech – We need to keep practicing this area of our grammar curriculum.  Just like the multipication Tables in 3rd grade, it take practice, practice and more practice.  On page 114 on the Thurston Student Planner is a good referral list of Parts of Speech.  Please refer to that for your homework tonight that is due on Tuesday.

Wednesday – Study Guide for Spring Semester Final will be handed out.

Block Day – Art/Literature class project. along with Vocabulary Test.  Spelling, definition and sentence usage will count on this test.

Ms. Piv! will read the story in Lesson #20 on Wednesday in class.

Parts of Speech Review worksheet – due on Block Day  Definition and a good sentence written in print or cursive stapled to the worksheet.  Circle each part of speech you are referring to.  Due on Block Day with a 100 point Test after this homework assignment is collected.  We will review and discuss these Parts of Speech in class on Wednesday.

Block Day – Holt Literature in class reading “The Dog of Pompeii” and “Pompeii”  Pages 430-441

After in class reading silently, with a partnert and as a class, each student will answer questions #1-#11, individually, and turn in for credit.

Holt Literature Book – Pages 362 – 371  “Eleven”  Questions #1-10—due Tuesday

Wed. – Grammar – More Words Easily Confused

Block Day – Creative Writing – “When I was Eleven, Ten, Nine, Eight, and …”  Due at the end of the period from the Computer Lab.  We will work on the Rpough Drafts in class Tuesday.

OPEN HOUSE -  Thursday, May 20th from 6pm until 7:30.

I sincerely look forward to all parents attending and enjoying the classrooms and student work on display.  My classes will have their Multi Genre Research Reports on display.  And, trust me, they are truly terrific.  You will love seeing the different presentations of the many varied topics.

Wordly Wise #17 this week.  Workbook due and 2 tests on Block Day.

“Walkabout” -  take home final test on Monday.  All parents must sign the test so that I know the student did the test by themselves.  It is Open Book and students may also use a Dictionary.  Thank you for your help and support on this test assignment.

Capitalization review on Wednesday.

“Walkabout” Vocabulary.  Test on spelling of these words and meanings:

“Walkabout” Quiz on Block Day will include 10 questions on complrehension of Chapters 1 – 10 and the 10 vocabulary  words.

MULTI-GENRE RESEARCH REPORT  -  Due  Monday, May 10th !!!

Today this report was introduced to all of my classes.  Students must select their topic by this weeks Block Day.  Students must discuss their choice of topic with their parents.  Student, parent and Ms. Piv! must agree that the topic is appropriate and a good fit for each student.  Each student will complete their “About the Author” page for this report by the end of class on Wednesday.  We will be in the Computer Lab on Tuesday and Wednesday to complete this final draft portion of the Multi Genre Research Report.   We will complete most of this project in class.  c Each student will be given a hard-bound blank book to place their report in (  THANK YOU… Schoolpower and PTA  !!!  ).

THIS WEEK:

“Walkabout”  -  Read Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5  -  up to and including page 48.

20 vocabulary words listed on the classroom front board and copied by each student.  The test this Block Day will include all of these 20 words.  A special “Walkabout”  assignment will be completed in class on Block Day. 

Wortdly Wise #15  -  workbook due on Block Day; 2 tests on Block Day  -  spelling and cursive as well as definitions and usage.

Block Day  -  In class writing assignment collected at the end of the period.  Also, trable group work of maps of Australia.

Tuesday – Holt Literature Book

Read: “The Gold Cadillac” PP. 175 – 184  We will begin reading this in class.  Students should finish reading this novella at home Tuesday night.  Page 187 – Questions #1 thru #11. 

Wednesday -   complete 11 questions from Tuesday assigned reading and begin discussion for “What is Prejudice?” essay to be completed in Computer Lab on Block Day.

Block Day – Wordly Wise #14 Workbook collected and 2 tests:  spelling and cursive; and, definitions and usage.

Computer Lab -  Using a prompt provided by Ms. Piv! write a 5 paragraph essay entitled: “What is Prejudice?”  Bat 6, the book we just completed reading and studying will be the resource we use for this essay.  We will also have examples to share from our classroom discussion on Wednesday.  Ms. Piv! will help each student create their Introductory paragraph and their Concluding paragraph.
